TEACHING ENGLISH???  Larry Rose

Many expats from the US and other English speaking
countries believe that they can get a job teaching English
simply because they speak English/
What would you tell them before they come to Medellin believing that?

Mike Smith Know your grammar first before you start teaching.
Grammar is very important.

Gustav Giraldo
Gustav Giraldo I recommend they don't do it if money is the only
thing they care about, for one thing, salary is not good, and they will
be bored at work because teaching is no children's game if you don't have
devotion and love for it and this will lead into bored students
wanting to quit because their teachers don't actually give a s...
about their learning.

Thinking you can walk in and teach in a foreign country is kind of ugly. Thinking
you can walk in and teach in a US school is also ugly no matter what the
subject.

Jude Agar
Jude Agar Can you capture the complete attention of an audience?

I don't mean do you like to talk at people, anyone can do that,
but can you truly engage with people? That's a completely different skill.
No student learns well if not completely engaged in the process.

Maybe you don't care.

Conny Nichols
Conny Nichols That they’re being disingenuous and unfair to students
who put themselves in their hands and trust them to be qualified
to truly teach them right. So many wannabe teachers see teaching
English as their only recourse to make some kind of money
while they travel. Too many of them are too selfish to see that
and pursue their plan even knowing that they are unqualified to teach.
Prince Andrew
Prince Andrew Same coming to the USA as native Spanish
speaker and pretend to teach in a school without a degree in teaching!
Left Colombia because they preferred hiring native English
speaking people without a degree in teaching than me!
So my solution to that problem was studying a Master in teaching
Spanish! Moved to the USA. Now I earn in USD not in COP!
Much better!
Vocation is more important than knowledge!

Volunteer?

..............................
You can tutor if you can make a connection. LOW pay friends!
You can apply to better more established schools. Minimum,
US Teacher credential.
or TEFL or CELTA accreditation. Low paying but you can make it.
Try US or European schools that have branches in Medellin.
Requirements vary but don't think being an English speaker is enough.

Good Luck.

PLEASE, I am soliciting responses from those who do teach English in Medellin.
Tell your story. .
